Drone, real estate and resort photography in The Blue Mountains
Chalets, resort-village condos and escarpment properties, shot with the hills and the bay in the same frame.
The Blue Mountains
What the ground can't show you.
The Blue Mountains runs from the shoreline at Craigleith up the Niagara Escarpment to the ski hills, and takes in the resort village, the private clubs and the chalet neighbourhoods between them. It is the most view-driven property market in the region: elevation, slope access and sightlines to the bay are what separate two otherwise similar listings.
Those are aerial questions. How close is the chalet to the lift, does the deck actually face the water, what does the property look like with snow on the hills behind it. A ground-level set can describe a house; an aerial set explains why it is worth what it is listed at.
Pete is accredited member, professional photographers of canada (ppoc), holds the Master of Photographic Arts (MPA) designation, flies on a Transport Canada Basic Operations Pilot Certificate (RPAS), and carries $1,000,000 in liability insurance. He works out of Thornbury, so The Blue Mountains is a local drive, not a travel call-out.
What gets shot here
Two kinds of work, quoted separately and often shot in the same visit. Each one has its own page for The Blue Mountains.
Drone and aerial photography in The Blue Mountains
Two chalets can look much the same from the road and be very different listings once you can see which way each one faces and what stands between it and the bay. Aerial work over the escarpment is how that gets settled.
Commercial and tourism photography in The Blue Mountains
Resort, club, course and village imagery are the four jobs an operator on this hill actually books, and last winter's pictures are a disadvantage this winter. Tourism photography for the resorts and private clubs covers each one.
Questions
Asked about shooting in The Blue Mountains.
- How far is this from Pete's base?
- Thornbury is inside the same municipality, so this is home ground rather than a service area. The village is at the shoreline end of the township and the hills are about fifteen minutes up the road, which means an early start on the escarpment does not begin with an hour in the car.
- Who has to agree before a shoot on resort or club land?
- Whoever owns the ground. Airspace and land are two separate permissions in Canada: the flight rules govern the air, and the resort, the club or the condominium corporation governs launching, landing and standing on their property. On a private club that conversation happens first, because the club generally wants to pick the hour as well.
- Is winter or summer the better time to shoot up here?
- They sell to two different buyers. A chalet marketed on ski access and a chalet marketed on a summer at the water are, in photographs, two different properties, and a set made entirely in one season quietly argues against the other. Anything being marketed year-round is worth photographing at least twice.
The work
Shot in and around The Blue Mountains.
Frames from The Blue Mountains itself, out of Pete's ongoing work across South Georgian Bay.
Nearby
Also covering the towns next door.
The escarpment does not stop at a municipal line. Thornbury real estate photography covers the harbour end of the same township, property photography in Clarksburg the valley behind it, and Collingwood listings the market immediately east. Everything but that last one is inside the boundary of Grey County, which carries on over the top of the escarpment toward Owen Sound.
