Clarksburg sits on the Beaver River just upstream from Thornbury, a small arts village with galleries and studios along its main street and the Beaver Valley opening up behind it. Properties tend to be village lots with real character or valley acreage with the escarpment on both sides.
Both are hard to photograph honestly from the ground. A village property's appeal is its street and its river, and a valley property's appeal is the valley itself, and neither fits in a frame taken from the driveway.

- Five minutes upstream on the same river. It is the shortest drive of any town covered here, which mostly matters for the things that need a second attempt: a valley property that was in shade by the time the sky was right is worth going back for when the trip costs a few minutes rather than an afternoon.
- Is Clarksburg just treated as part of Thornbury?
- No. They share a municipality and a river and almost nothing else about how a property here gets photographed. The village has its own street, its own galleries and studios, and a market of character houses and valley acreage rather than harbour frontage. The shoot is planned to the address, not to the postal town.
- What hour of the day works in the valley?
- Earlier in the evening than people expect. The valley walls put the floor into shade well before the sky has finished, so the light on a property down by the river runs out ahead of the light on one up on the shoulder. Two properties a kilometre apart can want start times an hour apart.
