Drone, real estate and commercial photography in Thornbury

Pete is based in Thornbury. Harbour listings, orchard acreage and Beaver Valley properties, shot from the air and the ground.

Thornbury

What the ground can't show you.

Thornbury sits where the Beaver River meets Georgian Bay, with the harbour and fish ladder at one end of town and apple orchards climbing the valley behind it. Properties here range from village lots a short walk from the water to acreage along the escarpment, and the setting is usually a large part of what a buyer is actually paying for.

That setting is exactly what ground-level photography struggles to show. An aerial frame puts the harbour, the river, the orchard rows and the escarpment into one image, and answers the questions a listing gallery otherwise leaves open: how far is the water, what backs onto the lot, where does the property end.

Pete is accredited member, professional photographers of canada (ppoc), holds the Master of Photographic Arts (MPA) designation, flies on a Transport Canada Basic Operations Pilot Certificate (RPAS), and carries $1,000,000 in liability insurance. He works out of Thornbury, so Thornbury is a local drive, not a travel call-out.

What gets shot here

Two kinds of work, quoted separately and often shot in the same visit. Each one has its own page for Thornbury.

Drone and aerial photography in Thornbury

A tight lot near Bruce Street and forty acres up the valley are flown at completely different heights, for completely different reasons. Flying a Thornbury property goes through both, and why living ten minutes away changes what a reflight costs.

Commercial and tourism photography in Thornbury

The shooting window and the buying window sit six months apart, which makes booking a calendar conversation before it is a price one. Commercial and tourism work along Bruce Street sets out when each kind of image has to be made.

Pete lives in Thornbury and the business runs from here, so a shoot in the village is a local job rather than a travel call-out. What a shoot costs explains how any of the above gets quoted.

Questions

Asked about shooting in Thornbury.

Is Pete actually based in Thornbury?
He lives in the village and the business runs from here, so a shoot in town is a local job rather than a call-out with travel on it. There is no studio to visit; everything happens at the property. Being ten minutes from most addresses in town is also why a shoot can be held for the evening the light finally turns up.
Can the house, the land and the harbour all be covered in one visit?
Usually, and it is normally the cheaper way round. The aircraft goes up for the setting, which is the water, the orchard rows and where the lot actually ends, and the same visit covers exterior ground stills. What splits a visit in two is light rather than workload: a front elevation facing west and a garden facing east do not both look their best in the same hour.
What time of year suits a Thornbury property best?
It depends on what is being sold. Anything with fruit trees on it is two different properties in blossom and in bare wood. Down at the water, winter makes its own case, because ice against the harbour wall and snow on the escarpment behind town are a large part of why people move here. The month that hurts is the one nobody thought about.

The work

Shot in and around Thornbury.

Frames from Thornbury itself, out of Pete's ongoing work across South Georgian Bay.

Nearby

Also covering the towns next door.

One trip usually covers more than one town: photography in Clarksburg five minutes upstream, aerial work across The Blue Mountains starting at the town line, and listings in Meaford twenty minutes west along the shore. All three sit in the same county as this village, and the rest of Grey County reaches a long way south and west of them.
